Reading the National Narrative

On the Road

Oct 12, 2014

Next week finds me winging my way eastward to Toronto where I am fortunate to be showcasing my book Closing Time at one of Ben McNally's Authors' Brunches next Sunday (Oct. 19).

I'll be alongside Brian Little, a psychologist with a new book about personality, and Catherine Gildiner, the memoirist and novelist, both of whom are hugely entertaining speakers. As if that were not intimidating enough, the fourth presenter is going to be British historian/biographer Caroline Moorehead. Her book about women in the wartime French Resistance, A Train in Winter, is one of my favourite recent history books. I gave it to several friends and relatives for Christmas last year. And I expect her new book, Village of Secrets, again about the war, is equally fine; I've just begun reading it.

So, I'll be in excellent company and it should be a lot of fun.

Ben McNally, of course, is the Toronto bookseller and the event, which is at the King Edward Hotel, is co-sponsored by the Globe and Mail.
